Fast identification of active and reactive current component for single phase grid interconnection

Single phase grid connected converters in Photo-voltaic(PV) and Electric Vehicles(EV) are finding their application in reactive power support to grid. A power feedback is generally integrated in the control loop for this purpose. Fast and accurate calculation of active and reactive power of the converter is necessary for swift response of controller in regulating output power. This also prevents converter from being overloaded. This paper presents a fast and simple technique to measure the active and reactive power component utilizing wave-shape similarity of sine and cosine function. The performance of the proposed method is compared with dq transformation based approach. The discussions and simulations show superiority of the proposed method in dynamics and implementation.
