Studies on characteristics of PMSGs used for current-source type wind farm composed of series-connected wind generators

Characteristics of PMSGs used for current-source type wind farm composed of series-connected wind generators are studied. A series of experiments was carried out with an experimental set composed of series-connected thyristor rectifiers with PMSGs as wind turbine generators and current-source thyristor inverter. A simulation model based on trapezoidal waveforms of armature electro-motive force for PMSG is used to discuss the characteristics of the machines, and the validity of the model is shown. Also, the basic characteristics of the current-source type 250MW wind farm composed of 50 sets of series-connected 5MW PMSGs are investigated considering wind speed distribution for individual wind turbines.
