A pulse-based memristor programming circuit

In this paper, we present a novel and simple circuit for accurately programming memristors in both an incremental and a decremental fashion. One of the main constituting blocks of the circuit is an inverting voltage amplifier block within which the memristor forms a gain stage with a reference resistor. Memristor resistance modulation is achieved by means of auto-tuning operational amplifier's gain. By exploiting the intriguing characteristics of the memristor, this circuit takes advantage of the memristor's pulse-based programmability without requiring any external processing to accurately set the memristor to a given state which corresponds to on an input reference voltage. The circuit was implemented in a 3.3V, 0.35μm CMOS process. The functionality of the circuit has been validated through simulation with the HP memristor model and the results show a good linearity between the memristor programmed state and the input reference voltage.
