A rectifier/AC shunt regulator combo circuit with inherent AM demodulation front-end for wireless powered implants

A Rectifier/AC Shunt regulator (RACS) combo circuit is proposed to provide a regulated supply voltage for wireless powered implants with high overall voltage conversion efficiency (~90.4%) and overall power conversion efficiency (~89.8%) when coupling coefficient, k_c, between the coils of the implant and the external unit is low. At high k_c'_s, the RACS limits the implant coil voltage without using a voltage clamp. It also provides received signal strength indication (RSSI) as well as peak detection and low pass filtering for AM demodulation inherently with only a few added components, achieving further savings on power dissipation and die area for the entire implant.
