Neuromorphic readout integrated circuits and related spike-based image processing

Unlike conventional framing cameras, neuromorphic readout integrated circuit (ROIC) outputs contain only asynchronous spikes of +1 or -1 bit signals. This is analogous to a biological retina that outputs ON and OFF pulses. A neuromorphic ROIC has a fast pixel response; outputs sparse data (small changes at the pixel level that represent only motion or temporal changes); and has very low latency. We demonstrate basic spike-based algorithms that can simultaneously: reconstruct full intensity, super-resolution images; and detect and recognize high-speed events that would otherwise not be possible with traditional framing cameras.
