Creep-rupture models and experimental results for polyester rope

Several theoretical models of creep-rupture in polyester rope are compared and analyzed. The methods of prediction are evaluated with new experimental data on polyester rope. A test sample held at 85% of its average break strength has not failed in 113 days, exceeding most theoretical prediction. In light of this finding, creep-rupture is not the probable mode of failure for polyester rope in deepwater mooring applications.
