Multicast Capacity over the CDMA Air Interface

Chapter 8 analyses the capacity of multicast over the CDMA air interface. In CDMA, data transfer to a group may either take place on multiple point‐to‐point channels transmitted to individual multicast users separately or on a single point‐to‐multipoint channel that is broadcast over the entire cell. The capacity of both channel selection schemes is analyzed by deriving closed‐form analytical expressions of the Erlang capacity of multicast with point‐to‐point and point‐to‐multipoint channels. The chapter provides insight into the trade‐offs between employing point‐to‐point and point‐to‐multipoint channels for multicast over the CDMA air interface
