Electrodeposition of iridium oxide charge injection electrodes

The electrodeposition of iridium oxide charge injection coatings for neural stimulation electrodes is described. The depositions were conducted from an aqueous IrCl/sub 4/ solution using gold substrates. The electrodeposited films exhibited growth rates and electrochemical behavior similar to AIROF. Charge storage capacities of 25 mC/cm/sup 2/ were readily attainable and the films tolerated ultrasonication in distilled water with only minor loss of capacity.
