Consolidation of magnetostrictive (001)-oriented Fe-Ga flakes for 3D printing powder materials

In this work, we investigate consolidation of Fe-Ga alloy flakes with varying particle size and demonstrate 3D printed Fe-Ga discs to evaluate their potential to transform commercial production. Flake-type particles were produced from ingots of Fe₈₀Ga₂₀ and Fe₇₃Ga₂₇ alloy by high-energy ball milling using a SPEX 8000 Mixer/Mill. Wet ball milling with isopropyl alcohol was employed to avoid shattering alloy pieces into irregular powders, which occurs during dry milling.
