Limitations and future of electrocardiography devices: A review and the perspective from the Internet of Things

Electrocardiography (ECG) devices are considered essential medical tools for detecting and preventing cardiovascular diseases. These devices are used to obtain information about the structure and function of the human heart. Given the various medical uses of the information from ECG devices, it is essential that these devices provide accurate information about the heart in a precise manner. Although many advances in ECG devices have been made over the years, the literature reveals not only limitations in conventional devices but also highlights how the Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to improve medical applications in ECG devices. This paper reviews previous works on ECG devices to identify their limitations as well as provides some insights into the development of IoT-based ECG devices.
