The design of a reconfigurable computing unit based on heterogeneous system

In this paper, a coarse-grained reconfigurable computing unit (RCU) is designed for the heterogeneous multi-core system (HMCS) which is applied to high density computing field. As a data-driving computing unit, RCU can work in two modes: stream-mode and store-mode. In first, it achieves a higher efficiency, while in latter it attains a better flexibility. The architecture of RCU is optimized for some common complex algorithms, such as vector or matrix calculation. In HMCS, the RCU is connected on NoC (network on a chip) via two duplex data-access interfaces to obtain an enough throughput and to improve the ratio of computing time and data transport time. At last, the hardware prototype of RCU is implemented on the FPGA and the experimental results show that the performance has achieved the performance requirements.
