Calculation and experimental study on iron loss of converter-fed synchronous reluctance motor for indirect efficiency determination

The work provides a theoretical and experimental study on the iron loss of an energy efficient synchronous reluctance motor without starting winding powered by a frequency converter. The concepts of basic and additional load losses in the magnetic system of this motor are introduced. Based on the results of the theoretical study, a no-load test procedure was proposed for the motor under consideration, which allows indirect assessment of iron losses and efficiency in load modes. The accuracy of the efficiency measurement results is assessed using the indirect method proposed by experimental comparison with the results of the direct method.
