Designing protective structure using FEM simulations

This paper deals with design of a new protective structure and completes the first step resulting to the preliminary draft of its shape and structural design. The process of designing the protective structure started with creation of the computational model solved in the software environment Ansys Fluent, where the most common cuboid shape of protective structure was assessed on the bases of output parameter represented by its drag coefficient. In the next section a parameterized model of the structure was created that allowed to assess wide variants of shapes and find an optimized shape design. Six chosen variants were subsequently assessed in the software environment Ansys Autodyn on the bases of value of their acceleration caused by the blast wave. Two most suitable shape variants for protective structure were chosen with regards to restrictive conditions such as construction material, affordable methods for its production, favourable internal topology and undemanding way of assembly and the transportability of the prefabricated parts. One of the two final shape variants was transformed into the preliminary frame structural design.
