Thermal analysis of AC-LED light engine based on infrared image

In this article, thermal performance of AC-LED light engine driven by segmented linear constant current was analyzed, based on the results of transient temperature rise measurements using infrared camera. Compared with DC-LED, AC-LED chips can be driven by AC voltage without the transformer and rectifier circuit. While, AC-LED light engine presented the characteristics of high efficiency, high power factor, low total harmonic distortion, longer lifespan, and higher reliability. This study investigated infrared images of AC-LED light engine driven by segmented linear constant current within 300 seconds. The temperature curve of AC-LED chips showed that the AC-LED chips presented regularly and non-uniformly temperature distribution. The analysis presented in this work could result in a better design for PCB layout and heat sink of AC-LED light engine.
