Designing a flexible and low cost ultrasonic non-contact rangefinder

In this paper we will present the design and implementation of an ultrasonic non-contact rangefinder with microcontroller. This rangefinder can be use in a variety of application, like: toxic surroundings, hardly accessible spaces, electromagnetically polluted environments, etc. The core of this rangefinder is the Atmega 328 P-PU microcontroller, having a RISC architecture, 32 registers of 8 bits, and in one word, enough resources to implement a very accurate cost-effective product. This paper presents multiple versions of the rangefinder implementation, all based on Atmega 328 P-PU, showing its flexibility and allowing the selection of the optimal one based on the application requirements you want to create. The experimental implementations prove to be cost-effective, accurate, portable, and easy to operate.
