Unbalanced voltage effects and its analysis on an induction motor

In industries, induction motors are widely used because they are cheap, rugged, requires less maintenance, and easy to operate. Although reliable, yet they are subjected to different types of failures/faults. Unbalanced voltage supply to the induction motor is one such external fault which can result in problems like excessive heating due to more losses, over-voltages, mechanical oscillations, acoustic noise, etc. In this paper, the effect of unbalanced voltage supply on the induction motor performance in terms of speed, torque and current is discussed. The %THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of torque under balanced condition is 66.72% which is less as compared to that of unbalanced condition where it is 3852.17% The experiment and analysis has been performed in Maltab Simulink and its result is presented here.
