Optimal power flow problems solution with STATCOM using meta-heuristic algorithm

Optimal power flow is highly constrained, non linear and non convex optimization problems of the power system. This present paper introduced meta heuristic Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm to solve of OPF problems equipped with shunt connected Flexible AC transmission (FACTS) device called Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). Different objective functions Fuel Cost and Voltage Deviation are considered as OPF problems. To determines the quality and effectiveness of proposed approach (GWO) applied on standard IEE-30 bus test system with and without STATCOM device. The results demonstrate that GWO algorithm given optimal setting of control varoable for all objective functions compared to other well known algorithms which were reported in literature.
