To innovate is to survive: Insight from human survival to innovation

IN the business world, "change is the only constant" is often heard in the context of process re-engineering, digital re-invention, business or technological innovation. I am convinced that technology innovation has played a key role in driving changes for the past 50 years. Many consultants would argue that a lasting change is not the result of technology implementation itself, like a hammer looking for a nail, rather it is from within the organization, from the constant look out for a better efficiency. The latter act to continuously improve, drives the needs for new tools and new technology. New tools, a better widget drive process change, or does a better process drive the birth of a new tool? Or does it really matter whatever the answer?
