The ICES working group on biological effects of containments: a case study

The activities of the ICES Working Group on Biological Effects of Contaminants are representative of the responsibilities of the approximately 60 Working Groups established by the Council. The Working Groups address specific questions and problems referred to them by the ICES Subject or Advisory Committees. This Working Group develops and evaluates biological-monitoring techniques for monitoring marine pollution. It coordinates its activities with other ICES Working Groups including those concerned with pathology, marine chemistry, benthic ecology, and environmental assessment, and also works closely with other national and international organizations concerned with biological effects of contaminants; it has particularly close ties with the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
