Design and modeling of low power alternator for solar thermal application

Harvesting of renewable energy for power generation has become the need of the hour. Among the various types of renewable energy sources, the solar thermal application stands out. This application has several advantages and requires mainly a low power alternator and other special components for power generation. The paper presents the design of low power alternator being used in roof top solar thermal conversion system. The design parameters of stator and rotor construction, winding configuration and other crucial factors of a typical low power alternator have been discussed. The material requirement for the construction of alternator has been worked out and presented. Further, the mathematical modeling of synchronous generator has been presented.
