Deadbeat controller for SOPDT processes

A deadbeat controller for second order plus dead time (SOPDT) process is proposed in this paper. A proportional integral and derivative (PID) controller is designed using Smith predictor to compensate the dead time of the process. The control parameters are estimated using the property of digital deadbeat controller, and gain and phase margin criteria. The controller is robust, and the response of the controller has low overshoot and minimum settling time. The performance of the controller is verified using some examples.
