Automated calculation of the compensator based on the online identification of the plant operating in closed loop

The control system described in this work tunes a digital controller to achieve the specified phase margin and crossover frequency by applying a design method based on the measured frequency response of the DC/DC converter, identified by the system itself. The converter is working closed-loop from the start but with a simple controller, so the output voltage remains regulated though does not meet the dynamic specifications. After the identification process starts, the parameters of the controller are gradually modified till the system meets the specifications. The algorithms for the design, identification process and control of the converter are implemented on a SoC (System on Chip). The proposed algorithm to calculate the controller is described and the identification process and the designed compensator are validated through measurements on an actual converter.
