Energy-efficient and mobility-aware dynamic Intercell Interference Coordination in Heterogeneous Networks

Deploying with much smaller cells, dense Heterogeneous Networks can greatly improve the capacity of communication system. However, users in the edge region of small cells are experiencing high interference from the macro-cells. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient and mobility-aware enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (e-ICIC) scheme to mitigate the co-channel interference. The proposed scheme uses UE transmit power consumption and cell capacity as the criteria to select the serving cell, and turns off some of the resource blocks in macro-cells according to the user mobility in the pico-cell edge region. The proposed e-ICIC scheme can improve the energy efficiency of transmit power consumption at UEs and increase the total average throughput of both macro-cells and pico-cells. The performance of our proposed e-ICIC scheme is validated against other reference e-ICIC schemes based on the simulation results.
