A Downlink Resources Allocation Scheme for Multimedia Applications in OFDMA Wireless Systems

The growth of wireless technology made opportunistic scheduling awidespread theme in recent research. Providing high systemthroughput without reducing fairness allocation is becoming a verychallenging task. The purpose of this work is twofold. On the onehand, we proposed a new optimization problem called SatisfactionProbability which consists in maximizing the number of satisfiedusers. On the other hand, we proposed a new scheduling scheme basedon Round Robin (RR) Algorithm. Because of its non-opportunisticprocess, RR does not take in account radio conditions andconsequently it affect both system throughput and multi-usersdiversity. Our contribution called MORRA (Modified OpportunisticRound Robin Algorithm) consists to propose a solution to this issue. MORRA not only exploits the concept of opportunistic scheduler butalso takes into account other parameters in the allocation process. The first parameter is called courtesy coefficient (CC) and thesecond is called Buffer Occupancy (BO). Performance evaluation showsthat this well-balanced resource allocation scheme outperforms otherexisting scheduler algorithms (MaxSNR, PF and RR) and demonstratethat choosing between high system capacity and high fairness is notrequired.
