Harmonic Phenomena of typical low-distortion residential equipment

Despite of moderate nonlinearity levels, typical low-distortion residential equipment can produce significant harmonic amperes due to high rated power. Originated from transformer saturation and lamp arcing effects, harmonic emission of universal motor, microwave heating and magnetically ballasted lighting equipment is considered under varying grid voltage distortion. The Simulink-based time-domain models of a vacuum cleaner, microwave oven and fluorescent lamp with magnetic ballast are developed. Afterwards, the impact of voltage distortion levels on harmonic behavior of both individual and aggregate load models is assessed.
