An overview of the reliability of motor drive systems

The reliable operation of motor drive systems has been paid more and more attention, which is regarded as the key factor for various applications. In this paper, under the concept of the reliability prediction metrics and models from component-level to system-level, quantitative reliability assessment of motor drive system can be introduced from four aspects: subsystems of power converter, subsystems of motor body structure, subsystems of controller and subsystems of sensor. Several methods have been presented in the four aspects to enhance the reliability of systems. Moreover, reliability research status and contributions in these years are overviewed and concluded, including redundant designing, motor structure optimization and fault-tolerant control algorithm. Also, the limitations of the current research have been analyzed and the future research is recommended.
