Smart village — Meerpur Muwazarpur: Under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, an ambitious project with the support of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, was launched with the intent to leverage the technological know-how developed by the premier engineering institutes of the country and apply it in the rural milieu. To this end, IIT Roorkee conducted Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRAs) in 21 villages. 5 villages were then chosen on the basis of demographic characteristics, terrain, accessibility and extent of urbanization in February, 2015. Meerpur-Muwazarpur, a village in block Bahadarabad of district Haridwar, which lies about 17 km from Roorkee, was among the five chosen. A team of 15 freshmen students led by 5 sophomores conducted a macro- and micro-level survey in the village.
