Dual band patch antenna with enhanced gain using metamaterial

This paper is based on the designing of microstrip patch antenna for wireless communication. The antenna array is designed to transmit at 2.4 GHz and 3.7 GHz. The main contribution of the paper is the integration of metamaterials with a `E-shape' slotted microstrip patch antenna, in order to achieve high gain and enhance the beam directivity. Implementation of metamaterial in this application enhances the performance of the antenna, since it encompasses exceptional properties due to its structure instead of its atomic composition. Since metamaterials are not found in nature, they are required to be designed cautiously to achieve negative permittivity and permeability. Overall, the designed antenna offers improved gain and a more concentrated beamwidth. Hence, this paper provides comparison between the designed rectangular microstrip patch antenna with the same antenna designed using metamaterials.
