A review of different power converter topologies for PMSGs wind turbine

This paper is a review on different power converter topologies for PMSGs wind turbine. As demand of electricity is increasing day-by-day, researchers are moving from asynchronous to synchronous generator. Due to rapid growth in era of power electronics, the application of power electronics converters are playing a vital role in wind energy conversion system. This paper deals with the different power converter topologies for PMSGs wind turbine with their advantages and disadvantages. A proposed rectifier topology consisting of two three phase diode bridges and three thyristors for variable-speed high-power permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind energy conversion systems (WECSs). The major advantage of this rectifier is to cascade the inputs to accommodate power inflow when wind speed and the generator voltage is lower than rated. It also provides a cost-effective solution for generator-side converter in variable-speed high power PMSG-based wind turbines.
