A novel MPPT algorithm for photovoltie systems under dynamic partial shading — Recurrent scan and track method

With the rapid development in the field of solar energy, photovoltaic (PV) modules are being used in a wide range of moving applications like cars, trains, ships and a number of space applications that are subjected to dynamic partial shading. In such applications the power-voltage (P-V) characteristics of the PV module continuously changes with time. The conventional Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques may not have a good conversion efficiency under these scenarios. This paper proposes a novel MPPT algorithm, namely Recurrent Scan and Track (RST) method that was designed in a manner so as to keep up with the changes in the output characteristics due to dynamic shading and track the Global Maximum Power Point (GMPP) at all times. Simulations and outdoor experimental tests taking into account three different dynamic partial shading conditions were carried out to prove the effectiveness of the proposed RST method.
