Characterization techniques of single-mode fibers

The purpose of this paper is to review the recent developments of single mode fiber testing methods currently being used by the fiber optics industry. Each test method will be discussed in terms of the relevance of the parameter being measured, precision and speed. In addition, future trends on fiber optics communication systems have dictated the characterization of new parameters and the generation of new fiber types. These measurements will be discussed briefly in this paper.
