Implementation of control algorithm for furnace temperature control in CFD simulation

To control the temperature inside the furnace, a PID control algorithm is implemented through a user-defined function (.udf). A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of direct-resistance heating furnace is carried out using commercial computational modeling and simulation software- Ansys Fluent. To achieve a response with fewer oscillations, small overshoot and settling time, the controller gains need to be tuned to optimum values. To achieve this, adjustment of PID gains has to be carried out several times until the system responds in desired manner.
