Simulation-based micro-site selection for wind farm in complex terrain

With the continuous development of wind power technology, selecting the right location for wind farm is more complicated in China. Micro-siting in WT (wind turbine) aims at determining the layout of the location, a reasonable arrangement of the locations is a prerequisite to ensure the operation of wind powers. In this paper, the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software is used, with the finite volume method, to stimulate the complex terrain where the WT installed. By analyzing the flow field, it found that the downstream wind generate a huge impact on the shear coefficient of the top and bottom of the wind turbine blades. Thereby, in WT siting issues, the change of wind shear coefficients caused by the unbalanced wind load of wind turbine blades must be taken into account.
