MOSA: A modular all-optical switching architecture for data center networks

The massive adoption of cloud-based services in data center lead to an exponential increasing in both the amount traffic and servers, which brings a great challenge to data center network (DCN). In this paper, MOSA: a modular all-optical switching architecture based on arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG) is proposed to address the issue. The modular design makes MOSA can expand up to millions of servers easily. Because of the all-optical design, MOSA can carry a great mount traffic. The simulation results demonstrate that although the scale of MOSA becomes larger, the network latency is almost remaining the same, besides, MOSA will not saturate even at a very high traffic load.
