A switched-linear series converter

This article presents a hybrid series converter named Switched-Linear (SL) Series Converter. This converter could operate as a DC-DC, DC-AC or AC-DC structure. The linear power unit is a conventional Class AB power amplifier, which is fed by two tracking power supplies to boost the efficiency of the linear unit without worsen any qualities of the linear power amplifier. The efficiency can be achieved by decreasing the voltage in the linear amplifier to the lowest possible level for the application. The main goal of this article is to show the possibility of draining reversal power energy whenever it processes reversal power flux and/or non-resistive loads while maintaining high efficiency. Therefore, by combining the linear and the switched power amplifiers, the system has synthetic performance of high fidelity, high efficiency and excellent dynamic characteristics.
