Electronic optics system of a W-band 100-W Extended Interaction Oscillator

This paper introduces the design of electron optics system for use in a W-band Extended Interaction Oscillator (EIO). And the gun operating voltage is 11 kV with a beam current of 0.15 A. The electron optics system is designed as a typical Pierce type with permanent magnet structure, and simulated by SUPERFISH, ARSENAL and a PIC (Particle in Cell) code. Simulation results indicate that the gun has a reasonable cathode loading and a beam-to-tunnel radial fill factor of less than 0.625, and the peak value of longitudinal magnetic field in the interaction region is ~7200Guass, which meets the design requirement.
