Temperature field simulation of herringbone grooved bearing based on FLUENT software

The flow field in the herringbone grooved bearing was simulated by computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT, the comparison of static characteristics was made between the modal considering effect of viscosity-temperature or not. Temperature field distribution on the surface of herringbone grooved bearing was product in the case of different structure parameters (including spiral angle, groove depth, number of grooves, oil seal margin length) with the effect of viscosity-temperature and heat transmission involved. The result indicate that: When the viscosity-temperature effect is taken into account, the carrying capacity is almost decreased and the highest temperature gathers nearby the bearing centerline. Heat, produced by friction, plays a key role in the herringbone grooved bearing with oil seal margin.
