Parametric study of multibeam MIMO systems

In this paper, we investigated the performance of a linear uniform array, as it is usually used in the Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) systems. By using the Phased Array (PA) techniques we investigated the effect of pattern rotation on the system capacity. We introduce a new approach to realize maximum achievable capacity through pattern diversity by using multi-beam phased array antenna. The ray-tracing method was used to simulate the system performance in a realistic propagation environment. The initial results showed more than 98%, 92% and 83% of the theoretical capacity limit could be achieved when the number of transmitter and receiver antennas are respectively (2,2), (3,3) and (4,4).
