Broadband stacked printed antennas

Microstrip patch antennas have the attractive features of low profile and light weight, and can be made conformal to mounting structures. The conventional patch antennas suffer from the narrow bandwidth. To overcome this problem, a two layer electromagnetically coupled rectangular patch antenna is considered in this paper. A T-shaped probe fed rectangular patch stackeded by another parasitic one is considered. A wide impedance bandwidth (SWR ≤ 2) of 60% and a gain of about 9 dBi are achieved. The measured published results of the single element are conformed and then the radiation characteristics of the stacked antenna are investigated using IE3D software.
