The radiation characteristics of an HF log-periodic antenna used for ground wave propagation

Northern Radar's Cape Race prototype Ground Wave Radar (GWR) system employs a Log-periodic Dipole Array (LPDA) as the transmitter antenna. The LPDA is chosen due to its broadband, wide azimuthal beam width and high front to back ratio. The suitability of commercially available HF broadcasting LPDA antennas for use in GWR is investigated.
