Optimal allocation of FACTS device to improve voltage profile and power loss using evolutionary programming technique

Rapid increase in load demand forces the power system to operate at its maximum capacity. Due to this condition, there are risks which could lead to voltage instability. Theoretically, voltage stability is influenced by the unscheduled increment of load variation in a power system. As the load demand increases, progressive decline in voltage will occur. One of the solution due to this matter is by installing a flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) device. Therefore, to improve voltage stability, it is important to determine the location of FACTS device placement. Thus, this paper presents an optimal allocation of FACTS device which is TCSC and SVC to improve voltage profile and minimize reactive power loss by using evolutionary programming under stress condition on the IEEE 30-Bus IEEE. Transmission line with the highest number of static voltage stability index (SVSI) closes to 1 is considered as unstable line. Therefore, it is found that by placing FACTS device at the unstable line, the objectives can be achieved.
