Research on velocity estimation in high dynamic flight simulation with a stand-alone single-frequency GPS receiver

This paper describes methods for velocity determination in high dynamic flight using a stand-alone single-frequency GPS receiver. The work is of interest, and the proposed scheme is valuable for practice. Simulations are developed with a GPS signal simulator and a GPS receiver,where the aircraft velocity is up to 7000 m/s, and the acceleration is up to 7 g (9.8m/s²). The performance of the receiver is researched based on the quality analysis of observation data. Several methods are applied to get phase derived Doppler for precise velocity estimation. Then the estimated velocities are contrasted with their theoretical values, and the errors (3D RMS) is on the order of cm/s. The combination of the Doppler with the carrier phase, and the using of the second-order phase derived Doppler behave better in these two simulations.
