Comparative study about LED driving methods and feedback system for indoor plant cultivation

Controlled environment (closed loop) is used more and more often in the agricultural sector to provide all-year supply of required plants (fruits, vegetables, alternative energy plants (in photobioreactor) etc…). Light is a key factor in plant cultivation beside nutrients to enhance growing of crops (e.g.; plant factory). The aim of this study is to provide knowledge for electrical engineers about LED driving methods and sensor (feedback) apparatus in connection with plant biology to control farming qualities, depending on the plants the light equipment is designed for. The study helps to find the optimal driver and control system in order to design more effective and sufficient system for plant cultivation.
