Dual-wideband LTE/WWAN antenna for notebooks with plastic-clad metal cover

A notebook antenna with two wide operating bands to cover the long term evolution (LTE) and wireless wide area network (WWAN) operation in the lower band of 704∼960 MHz and the higher band of 1710∼2690 MHz is presented. The design comprised a two-branch monopole, a shorted strip coupled with the monopole, and two lumped elements. The antenna included the printed part on a FR4 substrate of planar size 10 mm × 65 mm and a thin metal plate of size 2 mm × 65 mm, and was placed in a plastic-clad metal cover with a nonconductive area of 12 mm × 75 mm double-injected. The design showed no isolation gap between the antenna and the ground plane.
