Side-edge LTE hybrid open-slot/inverted-F antenna with a narrow ground clearance for the smartphone

A hybrid open-slot/inverted-F antenna with a narrow ground clearance of 1.5 mm along the side edge of the LTE smartphone is presented. The hybrid antenna comprises an open-slot antenna (OSA) to cover the LTE low band (824~960 MHz) and an inverted-F antenna (IFA) to cover the LTE high band (1710~2690 MHz). Results of the proposed side-edge LTE antenna are described. The user's hand effects including two-hand data mode on the antenna performance are also discussed.
