Design and analysis of a servo control system for a novel linear-rotary voice coil motor

Voice coil motor (VCM) is a kind of direct drive motor widely used in multidimensional precision machining systems, which is of characteristics with high precision and high frequency response. This paper proposes a servo control system for a novel linear-rotary voice coil motor (LRVCM) which achieves a two-degree-of-freedom motion by one motor. Initially the basic structure of the novel LRVCM is described here. The linear-rotary mathematical models are set up to study a suitable control method. A triple closed-loop control system is proposed, and the transfer function relationship of the servo control system is analyzed. Fuzzy control and feedforward control are provided to obtain preferable system performance. The paper provides the analyses and design method of a high precision and quick response servo control system for the novel LRVCM, the references of control and drive design for LRVCM in precision machining systems are discussed.
