Analysis and design of an E-core transverse-flux flux-reversal linear motor

A novel E-core transverse flux-flux reversal linear motor is investigated in this paper. The magnets and armature coils are both on the primary side, while the secondary side only consists of laminated steels. The toroidal armature coils are placed on the middle tooth of primary core. The magnets are mounted on the primary teeth with alternating polarities. The problem of complex structure of transverse flux motors is addressed. At first, the basic structure and operating principle are introduced. Then, the equation of thrust is calculated based on the equivalent magnetic circuit method. And 3D FEM is employed to get the maximum thrust. Also the performance of this motor is evaluated. The results show that this kind motor benefits from sinusoidal back EMF and low detent force.
