Ultra-wideband bow-ties for hidden target detection

Ultra-wideband (UWB) through-wall radar is not able to meet the requirement of high resolution to detect hidden objects in some circumstance. This paper proposes an ultra broadband dual polarization radar antenna unit. The principles of the improved conical antenna is employed to make the antenna structure contour transit smoothly, the reflection coefficient of current is small. Thus, the impedance bandwidth of the antenna can be extended effectively. Additionally, a 1:2 balanced to unbalanced transmission line transformer is adopted. Simulation and experimental results show that the dual polarization antenna achieves unidirectional radiation and a relative bandwidth of 101%. The proposed antenna can achieve high gain and without loading any extra structure.
