The impact of physical layer impairment in survivability algorithms of elastic optical networks

The elastic optical networks are identified how the main technology to support the growing demand by bandwidth in the Internet. However many efforts are needed to enable the use of this technology. Among the principal challenges is that related to the treatment failures of the physical network. Furthermore, it is essential to consider the treatment of the physical layer impairments (IA). As the works in specific literature, do not consider, together, survivability and IA restrictions. This work aims at to accomplish a performance analysis of elastic optical network with survivability and IA. Therefore, this paper consider two survival algorithms and shows the impact of the IA upon of the blocking probability. The simulations have demonstrated that, in the best scenario, the considered algorithms achieved a relative increase of the blocking probability rate of 360% when the physical layer imperfections exist. In the worse scenario, the increase arrives in 2100%.
