An energy-efficient routing protocol for mobile opportunistic network

Mobile Opportunistic Network (MON) is a kind of Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) in which nodes are mobile with social characteristics. Users in such network carry data, move and forward it to others for information dissemination. There are already much work done on the routing problem in MON to achieve higher performance, they usually just focus on the physical contact among nodes and their social attributes, and the energy of node itself has always been ignored. In this paper, we propose a more practical routing protocol, named ERP, in which the sociality of node and the dynamic changes of the energy of node itself are all fully considered when the relay nodes are selected. To evaluate the performance of our routing protocol, we implement ERP and several other three protocols and perform trace-driven simulations. Simulation results show that the delivery rate of ERP is 24% greater than BubbleRap and 17% greater than EABubble, and obtaining 200% more survival nodes and 30% lower cost.
